Animated DIRBE Weekly 25 Micron Maps

The Figure below shows the 25 micron weekly maps from DIRBE as an animated GIF file. At this wavelength, the zodiacal emission dominates the sky, so only a very thin galactic plane emission can be seen over the interplanetary dust.

The solar avoidance hole starts out in the Galactic center region (Dec 89) and then moves around the sky for 41 weeks. During two weeks of the mission JFET off tests were done to assess the affect of the warm transistors in the preamps on the 140 and 240 micron channels.

From the time variation of the intensity at a given point on the sky, it is possible to estimate the zodiacal intensity without prejudging the cosmic or galactic backgrounds.
