The Galactic Center Group members primarily uses KECK observatory and also SOFIA for to study the galactic center in the infrared. However to paint a complete picture of this turbulent region, members also use radio telescopes such as the VLA and x-ray space telescopes. Adaptive Optics (AO) is a technology that corrects for the change in the light's path ( the wave front ) as it travels through our atmosphere to the telescope. By using a fixed light source in the sky, real or artificial, the distortions in the wavefront can be measure by the telescope's deformable mirror that makes almost continiously corrections for.
