Urgent Stuff

  1. Requested: 6/6/06 - Fix ssh2 freeze to shakti and kefa: If you ssh to shakti or kefa from artemis (maybe other) the windows freeze up after a certain period of inactivity (sometimes minutes, sometimes hours.)
  2. Fix sirona mounting issues from gateway: Make /d/sirona and /s/sirona accessible from gateway (or /net/sirona/data and /net/sirona/scratch.... we don't have a preference one way or another).
  3. PyRAF installation
  4. Backups: We would like a robust back up solution (RAID)? Temporarily, we are backing up to tape drives; however, this is not our preferred long term solution given the un-recoverability of data on the magnetic tapes that we have experienced.

Not as Urgent Stuff

  1. update emulateapj for latex
  2. Remove sleep timeout: For sirona, quilla, leto, we would like these to NOT be in power conservation mode. Otherwise, they go to sleep and wake-up time hinders data access on these drives.
  3. ssh2 without password: Develop instructions for how to generate public keys so we can ssh2 (the default ssh) without having to input passwords all the time.
  4. xrsh Restore xrsh access (perhaps ssh2 public keys will fix this?)

Long-Term Projects

  1. NFS Mounting Stability: Currently, if one machine goes down, we struggle to keep the other machines from crashing and often have to reboot them as well, all because of NFS mounting dependancies.
  2. help@astro support: This is our primary way of communicating issues and getting things resolved. The sooner we can start getting email responses to our help requests, the better.
  3. Integrated security for Solaris and OS X: This will eventually be necessary if we migrate to OS X platforms instead of Solaris boxes.
