Bio
I'm a graduate student in the astronomy department at UCLA. I joined the department in 2010. I grew up in Portland, Maine and graduated from Wesleyan University in 2007 with a BA in physics and and astronomy. Prior to arriving in Los Angeles for graduate school, I lived in Brooklyn for several years while working as a web developer and technology consultant to various media companies, including the New York Observer and Slate.com.Research
I'm currently working on observing and analyzing a flux-limited sample of dusty star-forming galaxies (DSFGs) in at high redshift. The initial sampling work was done using the South Pole Telescope. My advisor is Matt Malkan and key collaborators include Joaquin Vieira and others.
In the past I've worked on various projects related to photoionized objects like planetary nebulae and compact dwarf galaxies. If you deal with these objects you may be interested in ELSA, a software package that aims to integrate several phases of the data analysis pipeline for them.
