Strategic Planning Session

The goals of the Strategic Planning Session are
  1. To make the community more aware of the existing plans and budgets.
  2. To seek input from the broader scientific community in order to develop a better roadmap for the future.
There will be a small number of invited presentations to set the stage and then ample time for discussion, and question & answer sessions.

Your participation is extremely important.

Please review the current version of the Strategic Planning Document before the meeting.

11:30 am Discussion:
        		- How do we want the Keck capabilities to evolve, from now to the TMT era?
        		- What is the upcoming, Keck-specific, non-TMT science?
        		- What is the right balance of what we need to do our science now, and over the next decade, vs. evolving towards
          		    TMT complementarity?

Session 3: Defining the priorities
        	          Chairs: G. Djorgovski & I. McLean

Open Discussion - moderated by SSC Co-chairs:

1:30 pm 1. What are our science priorities?
            		- open the floor to all participants
            		- make a list
            		- is it realistic?
            		- AO vs. non-AO
            		- how much interferometry?

3:00 pm 2. How do these priorities translate into upgrades and/or new instruments?
            		- short term gains
            		- long term strategy
            		- smaller instrument projects (special purpose, cheaper, faster, disposable?) vs. true facility class
