Ay 5: Life in the Universe

Course Description:

We will be using the textbook by Bennett & Shostak . We aim to cover the scientific study and search for life in all its various forms and environments. We will cover the astronomical, biological and geological foundations of the search for life as well as the historical perceptions of the origins of life and the scientific methodologies employed in modern research on the subject.

This is an undergraduate GE course. The mathematical requirements go no further than basic arithmetic, but we will explore a wide variety of sophisticated scientific concepts during the course of the quarter. My goal is not to train scientists but rather to instill what I would want my doctor, lawyer or congressman to know about the subject.
