Late November/December 2013: Comet ISON
The planetarium will once again be participating in UCLA's annual science extravaganza, Exploring Your Universe! Coming back for a fifth straight year, the free event is coordinated by UCLA Astronomy's public outreach group Astronomy Live! and incorporates many other departments as well. Activities last year ranged from rocket launches, to making liquid-nitrogen ice cream, to making fossil casts! There will be tons of things to see and do! Great for kids! This year's event is on Sunday, November 17 from 12pm-5pm (with possible nighttime activities afterward). For updates on EYU and for more information, please visit Astronomy Live!'s website.
Late this year we are expecting a spectacular viewing opportunity of another comet, this one named Comet ISON. Astronomers predict the comet will be much brighter than March's Comet PANSTARRS and easier to see. We anticipate having some sort of viewing event, so please check back with us closer to November for details.
If you would like to arrange a private planetarium show for your group, go here (educational groups only, please).
