Subject: new outage window policy
As mentioned in the recently announced report on the latest computing committee meeting, regular outage windows have been established, during which some systems/services may be unavailable on our network:
	every Tuesday (morning) between 06:00 and 09:00;
	(rarely) some Thursdays between 19:00 and 21:00.

There will not necessarily be a major outage every week, but when there is, it will fall within those windows, and there will be an announcement the day before. Like today:

DATE 2002-04-09 (and every Tuesday) between 08:00 and 08:30

IMPACT Microsoft Windows Network will be down
		ALBIREO (8105) and ORANGE (8359) will be unavailable

AFFECTS users of Windows systems and of ALBIREO/ORANGE

USERS MUST	be prepared for a 5-to-10 minute network interruption
		close applications on ALBIREO/ORANGE by 08:00 Tuesday

DETAILS ALBIREO, ORANGE, and WINDOWS will be rebooted

REASONS weekly update of Windows 2000 Server OS
		weekly OS restart of public Macintoshes

STATUS UPDATE	stop by 8370 MS if you are not sure

NOTEWORTHY	this particular outage should be expected every week
		(same day, same time) and won't be announced again;
		it replaces the previous Saturday night outage window

Comments about these carefully selected outage windows are welcome. Thank you.
