The Young Planets Orbiting HR 8799

Travis Barman (Lowell Observatory)

Direct imaging of planets has seen a burst of success in the past year and, arguably, the most interesting of these discoveries is the triple planetary system orbiting the young star HR 8799. All three planets are directly accessible to a wide range of followup observational approaches, including spectroscopy. I will discuss what has been learned about this planetary system so far and how these planets compare to other known planets. I will also present new H and K-band spectra of HR 8788 b, the lowest mass planet in this system, obtained this year using OSIRIS on Keck-II. From these spectra we hope to gain some insight into the planet^Rs atmospheric chemistry and cloud properties.
